Five years have passed since Kehlani welcomed her daughter Adeya with then-partner and guitarist Javaughn Young-White. Despite their split, Kehlani has been linked with figures like YG and 070 Shake, and the ex-couple seemed to be co-parenting effectively. However, recent events have cast a shadow over their co-parenting arrangement. In July, Young-White sought full custody of their now-5-year-old daughter, alleging that Kehlani is raising Adeya within a cult led by a man accused of sexual misconduct.

He later retracted some claims, admitting on Instagram that his initial petition was filed incorrectly. Here’s a rundown of the situation. Young-White’s initial court documents, filed at the end of July, described Adeya’s 2019 home birth as “orchestrated by what I would call a cult.” Despite being present at the birth, he claimed his name was omitted from the birth certificate due to the unconventional nature of the delivery.

Kehlani denies cult involvement and claims media coverage is hurtful and untrue

Young-White alleged that Kehlani has been involved with this cult for years, which he claimed influences her parenting. He didn’t specify the group but mentioned a “cult leader” named Neto, who, according to Young-White, has multiple allegations of sexual assault. Neto allegedly barred him from seeing Adeya after a purported vision deemed him a threat to the child.

Kehlani responded to these accusations by denying any risk to her daughter. On Instagram Stories, they labeled the media coverage as “hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue,” asserting that they have not endangered Adeya or associated her with dangerous individuals. Kehlani described the dispute as a “legal, private, familial matter” to be resolved through proper channels.

Young-White later clarified that his petition had errors and was filed without his consent, expressing regret for any misinformation and emphasizing that he never intended to malign Santeria or paint an unfair image of Kehlani. He claimed that misleading information from church disputes had influenced his filing and apologized for any role in perpetuating these claims.
