Reflecting on their relationship, which began in 2016 after meeting at a Golden Globes afterparty, the “Fireworks” singer explained why they initially needed space before their bond deepened.

“We weren’t fully committed from the start,” Perry shared during the Sept. 4 episode of Call Her Daddy With Alex Cooper. “He was coming out of a period of celibacy with clear intentions, while I was freshly out of a relationship and needed to explore other options. I realized I had a lot of personal work to do.”

Katy Perry explains how personal retreats and therapy strengthened her relationship with Orlando Bloom

Bloom, who has a son named Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, attended a week-long retreat called The Hoffman Process in 2017, aimed at reshaping negative thought patterns and behaviors. Following this retreat, they recognized their differing relationship goals and chose to part ways.

Perry noted, “After his retreat, he was done with the games, and I found the lack of drama boring. I was used to that push-pull dynamic and moved on.” Following a challenging year apart, Perry decided to join the same retreat, which proved transformative for her.

“I attended the Hoffman Process towards the end of our separation, and it provided me with the tools I needed,” she explained. “We were able to communicate effectively after that.” The retreat not only rekindled their romance but also had a profound impact on Perry’s life.

“I don’t think I’d be here without it,” she continued. “The process and meditation were essential. During the release of Witness, I thought I was centered, but I realized my self-worth was based on external validation. The retreat helped me reconnect with my true self and align my head with my heart.”

Perry also praised Bloom for his unwavering support, especially during tough times. She recounted, “During a particularly rough patch in 2018, I showed him my worst side, and his reaction was, ‘I’m not shaken.’ I knew then that he was the one for me.”

As their relationship has evolved, they have committed to ongoing growth, including attending couples therapy. “Our goal is to evolve and become better individuals to raise our child effectively,” she said. “The process involves continual effort. Despite the challenges and our reluctance at times, we push through and find new levels in our relationship, which is why we continue to work on it.”
