Where Is Once upon a Prince filmed?

For this royalty-themed film, Hallmark returns to its roots in Canada. Once Upon a Prince was shot throughout Vancouver, including Victoria, Colwood, Oak Bay, and Metchosin, during the course of a 15-day shoot that began in late January. Hatley Castle was used to filming the castle sequences.

Even though the film is set in Georgia, just the opening scene is shot there. The lighthouse on Tybee Island, Georgia, is shown in the opening scene. The remainder of Once Upon a Prince was shot outside of the United States. The majority of the Once Upon a Prince filming took place in British Columbia, Canada.

According to Chek, the tiny village of Metchosin was one of the primary filming locations. Because Metchosin is a little, artsy village, production companies can easily plan filming, even at the last minute, according to the mayor. The rustic atmosphere of Metchosin encouraged them to film there, according to Darren Robson, the film’s production manager. It’s difficult to find countryside like this in the Lower Mainland, so it’s wonderful to get out and shoot in places that no one has seen before.

Metchosin is a hamlet in Greater Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, near the southern point of Vancouver Island. As of 2016, it has a population of 4,708 people.

According to the Vancouver Island Free Daily, locations filmed in Metchosin included Taylor Road for an outside scene with a tree covered in lights, Oak Bay Marina, Government House, and Riffington Manor. GardenWorks on Oak Bay Avenue was another site.

According to the Goldstream News-Gazette, the movie’s castle sequences were shot at Hatley Castle in Colwood, Victoria. Hatley Castle is a national historic site in the Greater Victoria area of British Columbia. Since 1995, the housing estate has been home to Royal Roads University. Lt. Gov. James Dunsmuir of British Columbia bought the land in 1906 and commissioned Scottish baronial architect Samuel Maclure to create the 40-room house. The family stayed on the estate until the latter years of the Great Depression, when they constructed formal gardens. The estate was sold to the Canadian government in 1939. The castle has made several appearances on television and in films.

The Luthor Mansion has appeared in Smallville, two X-Men films as Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, The Duke as Hubert’s house, Masterminds as the Queen Mansion, Arrow as the Queen Mansion, Witches of East End as the Gardiner family home, The Killing as St. George’s military academy, Descendants as Auradon Prep, and more.
