Endeavour is a British crime drama television series. It is a precursor to the long-running Inspector Morse series, and it is set largely in Oxford, as does that series. Shaun Evans plays Endeavour Morse, who began his career with the Oxford City Police CID as a detective constable and then as a detective sergeant.‘Endeavour’ is a prequel series to ‘Inspector Morse,’ which ran on ITV from 1987 to 2000 and was based on Colin Baxter’s characters. That show is based on a series of detective books written by Baxter. The film ‘Endeavor,’ set in the 1960s and 1970s, recounts Endeavour Morse’s early life and professional endeavors.
Except for 2015, after a pilot episode in 2012 set in 1965, the first series was shown in 2013, again set in 1965, and five more series followed. The second series took place in 1966, while the third and fourth series took place in 1967. The fifth series, which lasted six episodes, premiered in 1968 and was followed by the sixth series, which premiered eight months later in 1969. The seventh series, set in 1970, premiered in February 2020, with the first episode premiering on Masterpiece Theatre on August 9th in the United States.
Where is Endeavour filmed?
The majority of ‘Endeavour’ is shot in and around Oxford, Oxfordshire. However, several scenes were shot in London and Woodstock, New York. When Morse was on vacation, the series went to Venice for some shoots. But first, let us take you to the precise places where the episode was filmed.
At Oxford, there’s a copy of Venice’s Bridge of Sighs, where you can see Morse. The bridge joins two areas of Hertford College and was erected in 1914. It is the city’s most popular tourist attraction. The Bodleian Library is housed in the Radcliffe Camera, an iconic circular structure. Some views also use the grassy Radcliffe Square, which is still very un-modern and helps to properly represent the show’s location.
Because ‘Endeavour’ is set in Oxford, which is famed for its many colleges, some sequences will undoubtedly be shot in and around them. The St Cross Building at Oxford University is a good example of this. The building’s modernist design, which was erected somewhere in the 1960s, is ideal for the show’s location. Christ Church College appears as well, and fans of the Harry Potter films may recognize this renowned filming site. The Randolph Hotel is one of Oxford’s oldest hotels, and it also has a pub that Morse frequents.
Morse and his coworkers spend time at the Cowley Police Station. This location, however, has not been filmed in Oxford. Instead, it was shot in Enfield, London, using the historic Southgate Town Hall as the backdrop. Here’s a shot of Morse inside the station, which appears to be in Oxfordshire on the episode.
Everyone has been asking if ‘Endeavour’ was shot in Venice. The team did go there for some establishing shots and a few moments, though. However, it was only a skeleton set, and the show’s creators have stated that they used places in England to depict the Italian destination instead.
The filming of ‘Endeavour’ has been kept quite local. Of course, European projects have the advantage of being able to access neighboring attractive sites, but the PBS show must ensure that the environment is appropriate for the time period. Overall, the site scouts did a fantastic job, and Morse manages to transport us to another period with each new mystery he solves.
Endeavour Season 8 Cast
Evans and Roger Allam, who plays DI Fred Thursday, are also likely to return for the following season. The majority of the supporting cast, including Anton Lesser as Police Superintendent Reginald Bright, Sean Rigby as DS Jim Strange, Abigail Thaw as Oxford Mail editor Dorothea Frazil, and Caroline O’Neill as Thursday’s wife Winifred, is expected to return. In season 7, Sara Vickers, who plays Thursday’s daughter Joan, was absent from the cast. In season 8, she’ll most likely make a comeback. Stephanie Leonidas, who plays Violetta Talenti, Endeavour’s lover, will not return for the following season because her character is killed off in the season 7 finale.
