The 28th episode of Season 59 of General Hospital was all set to air on 6th October 2021. But much to the disappointment of the viewers, it didn’t air on the scheduled date. The reason behind this was the network had to cover a piece of exclusive news. Instead of the soap, the breaking news coverage of a school shooting aired on the network. The terrible event happened to take place in the city of Arlington in Texas.
But the news wasn’t broadcasted in the entire country. In some areas, the network telecasted a repeat episode of the show. To sum things up, some parts of the country had to watch a repeat episode and others a breaking news coverage. The disappointment of the fans was quickly erased as the episode aired just a day later, on 7th October 2021. It aired exactly at 1 pm Central Standard Time on the network.

The creators of General Hospital are Frank and Doris Hursley. They are husband and wife, and they together wrote the script of the show in the beginning. As you can guess from the title itself, General Hospital is a medical drama. It is set in a Hospital ( which is obvious because it is a medical drama) located in a fictional town. The city where the Hospital is located was called Port Charles earlier on in the show. By earlier on, I mean in the 1970s.

When it first aired, the show had overall good ratings. But into the 1970s, the ratings of the show dropped down. This was majorly because of the NBC network’s show called Another World. There was a time when the network decided to cancel the show. But as a final effort, they decided to extend the runtime from the usual 45 minutes to one full hour. The producers were given an ultimatum, and they did their best to revive the fallen ratings. Their efforts showed fruit when General Hospital became the most-watched daytime soap in the year 1979.
For over a period of ten years from then, the show remained on the top spot in ratings. After that, there was a decline in ratings but stilled, it managed to come in the 3rd and 5th spots, which are pretty good for a show that has been running this long.
