The game is developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch is a gaming console provided by Nintendo, a Japan-based video game company. Even though the game was announced, it looks that the release date of the game hasn’t been confirmed yet. But according to various sources on the internet, the game will be out by the year 2022. When the game was initially announced in the year 2017, Bill Trinen, director of product marketing at Nintendo of America, said that the development of the game would include Metroid producer Kensuke Tanabe. But he said that Retro Studios, the developer of the previous Metroid games, would not be involved in the process.

In 2018, reports by Eurogamer claimed that Prime 4 was being developed by Bandai Namco Studios of Japan and Singapore. Even though the development of the game was said to be going on, in the E3 2018, Nintendo didn’t share anything on the game. Later in the year 2019, Nintendo EPD general manager Shinya Takahashi announced that development on Metroid Prime 4 had restarted under Retro Studios with Tanabe. According to him, the development of the game hadn’t come up to their expectations under the previous studio. This was the whole reason why they had decided to restart the development of the game.
