In the years 1991 and 1993, Gant was part of the top five in the league in runs batted in. During the mid-90s, both the Reds and Cardinals bid for Gant due to his excellent speed and power combination. Just when the 1992 season was about to begin, Gant got into a squabble with Connie Mack IV, who in the future would go on to become a congressman. Gant made his last World Series appearance in the 1992 season, where the Braves lost in six games to the Toronto Blue Jays.
In 1994, even though Gant signed a deal with the Braves for a hefty sum, he broke his leg in an accident. The Braves had no option but to release Gant. After a short break from baseball, he returned back playing for the Cincinnati Reds. Later in 1996, he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals. The next year which is 1997, was not a great one for Gant’s career. Due to this, he was not a full-time player for the Cardinals in the 1998 seasons.
By November of the same year, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies by the Cardinals.
