Production and Development

Sing 2 was first announced back on the 25th of January 2017. Universal Pictures joined its forces with Illumination and announced a sequel to the animated film Sing. Garth Jennings returned on the set to serve as a writer and a director. Following this, we had Chris Meledandri and Janet Haley, also returning along with the crew members. All the voice cast members also joined at the start of production.

Remotely, the creators of Sing 2 carried on with the production. Even when the fatal Corona Virus rocked our worlds. The pandemic was thus created, and in return, the entertainment industry was forced to shut down. Well, there was one temporary halt. It happened at the closure of Illumination Mac Guff. The initial release date set for this sequel was the 25th of December 2020. Later, on the 12th of April 2019, the creators pushed the sequel back to the 2nd of July 2021.

Release Date Delayed to December of 2021.

Then, on the 1st of April 2020, Sing 2 was potentially delayed to the 22nd of December 2022. All this while, Minions: The Rise of Gru took the slot set on the 2nd of July 2021. Some delays were caused due to production halts, while some others because of the Corona Virus. However, we shall expect nothing less from the film.

The creators are pretty talented in delivering an excellent project even when we are in the middle of a pandemic. Also, it is not known if the film will have a theatrical release or not. I mean, most of the tales are getting extremely delayed these days or released on streaming platforms. As of right now, nothing has been announced officially about this issue by the creators.
