Netflix has officially dropped a trailer for Cobra Kai season 3. The show was renewed for a third season in May 2019. Originally it was supposed to release in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed, and then it was announced that the series would be leaving YouTube. It was later announced that the series would move to Netflix and that the season would air in 2021. In October, it was announced that the series was renewed for a 4th season, but the production on it has been delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic. It was nominated for several awards, including the Teen Choice awards.
The series focuses on Johnny Lawrence, who was once a star pupil of the Cobra Kai Dojo, who is now divorced and works as a down-on-his-luck handyman. He then rediscovers his talent when he saves a neighbor from bullies and decides to restart Cobra Kai and take a pupil, Miguel, under his wing. This even brings back his former rival, Daniel LaRusso, who is successful and happily married but struggles to bond with his daughter Samantha. Since he lost his sensei, Mr. Miyagi, he’s been struggling to keep balance in his life ever since. The series focuses on how these two try to struggles with their demons differently through one thing they are good at martial arts.
Season 1 saw the beginnings of the Cobra Kai dojo, the introduction of new characters, and bringing back the nostalgia of the original Karate Kid movies. It even saw a love triangle with Sam, Robby, and Miguel. It opened to mostly positive reviews, mostly praising it for its uniqueness. Season 1 ending saw Miguel winning the karate championship. Things went well until John Kreese made his return back to Johnny’s life. Season 2 saw the stakes getting higher and worse for everyone at the end. Johnny’s career as a sensei ended up hitting a roadblock, and there was a war set off in school between both the dojos, one of which caused a fatal attack on Miguel, which left him in a comatose state.
The new trailer for season 3 shows Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso teaming up and putting aside their rivalry to save the Cobra Kai team from the clutches of John Kreese, who has taken over as the new leader and is willing to put them through all kinds of hell no matter what. The trailer also sees Miguel recovering from his injuries with the help of Johnny after being put into a coma at the end of the season 2 finale.
