Raising Dion: Latest Updates For Season 2

Raising Dion

Raising Dion is an American superhero drama series based on the comic book and short film of the same name by Dennis Liu. Created by Carol Barbee, Raising Dion is the story of a woman named Nicole raising his son Dion alone after the supposed death of her husband, Mark. Already having enough complications in their lives, Nicole faces another obstacle when her son Dion starts manifesting super-natural powers. These powers include invisibility, teleportation, and telekinesis. She must work with her husband’s best friend Pat to hide her son’s gift from the Government and authorities who are trying to exploit him in order to conduct research and identify the origin of his powers. Now, the show is coming back, and here are all the Raising Dion Season 2 updates.

The plot of Raising Dion Season 2

By the end of season 1, we realize that all the people who had visited the northern lights in Northern Iceland in 2010 were possessed by powers. Mark and Pat were also present during this event, but Pat claimed that he did not get any powers. He actually did get the powers of “The Crooked Man,” a being who absorbed people with powers for sustenance and had done the same to Mark, thus explaining his disappearance. This clearly describes his motive as to why he was getting close to Nicole and Dion.

At the end of the season, The Crooked Man faces off against Dion but is disintegrated with Nicole’s help. And during this, Mark is finally able to meet with his family in the form of energy. Dion promises to bring him back and could be what the plot revolves around in Season 2. Meanwhile, another kid named Braydon is possessed by Pat and could lead to a face-off against Dion in the upcoming season.

Release Date

Released back in 4th October 2019, it took quite a while for any news to surface on a sequel’s arrival. But, finally, Netflix announced the show’s renewal for a second season in January 2020. We can rest assured that we will see the next chapter to this superhero’s origin story. The show was scheduled to go back in production in 2020, but due to the ongoing pandemic causing delays, the team has reportedly only begun its production in November 2020 in Atlanta. This comes as no surprise, as season 1 was also shot in this location. There is no set date, but we can speculate that season 2 should arrive somewhere around mid-2021.

Cast

Raising Dion would not be the same without the titular characters; therefore, we will certainly see Alisha Wainwright and Ja’Siah Young reprising their roles as Nicole and Dion, respectively. Sammi Haney, Ali Ahn, and Jazmyn Simon will even be returning for the second season as Esperanza, Suzanne, and auntie Kat. We even expect to see more of Michael B. Jordan, as Mark is not dead yet, and bringing him back could be the primary plot of the forthcoming season. Given the cliffhanger, we are bound to see more of Griffin Faulkner as Braydon. There is only a slim chance that Ritter will be back in season 2 due to his disintegration at the end of last season.

With the announcement of season 2, even Variety announced that the new season would run for 8 episodes of one hour each, one less episode than the last season. The show was ranked 10 in Netflix’s most popular series in 2019, and it is no surprise that the show got renewed. The announcement for the same was made by a video of a Senegalese artist, Bou Bou, painting a portrait of Dion and his mum Nicole.
