Master is an action-thriller movie that is produced by Xavier Britto and written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Master is marked as the debut film produced by Xavier Britto. This movie was also met with a lot of controversies during production, especially the income tax raid and the BJP protests. The cast member of this movie includes Vijay, Vijay Sethupati, Malavika Mohanan, Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Nassar, Ramya Subramanium, Dheena, and Sanjeev. An alcoholic professor is sent to a juvenile school, where he clashes with a gangster who uses the school’s children for criminal activities.
Filming of Master
The principal photography of the movie began with a pooja ceremony which the cast and crew had attended. Rathna Kumar was co-writing the screenplay of the project with Lokesh. Pon Parthiban, who had previously collaborated with Kanagaraj in Kaithi and was signed to co-write the screenplay with Kanagaraj and Kumar. The first schedule of filming took place in Chennai for 15 days. After the completion of the first schedule, the second schedule was moved onto Delhi. Vijay and the film crew members moved to Delhi in November 2019.
The stills from the shooting at Shri Ram College of Commerce and where the musical sequence was being filmed found their way onto the internet. Later, the film’s shoot briefly got delayed due to pollution. Due to the film’s shooting spots being leaked on Twitter, the makers took action against Twitter users under DMCA to avoid further damage during filming.
The crew went to film important scenes featuring Vijay and Vijay Sethupati in Karnataka after the Delhi schedule was complete. However, the makers planned to film a few scenes in Chennai before starting filming in Karnataka. More than 15 sets were being used for filming, one of which was the Metro sets used for the first time in Chennai. Later, the makers went to film fight scenes featuring both the Vijay at the NLC. However, the filming was met with many controversies when Vijay was summoned by Income Tax Officials on 5 February about potential Tax Evasion, and the protesters of BJP arrived at the NLC. The filming was completed on 29 February 2020.

Music
The film’s soundtrack album and the score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. This is his second collaboration with Vijay after Kaithi and second collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi after Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, and his first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. The album features 8 tracks, with 3 singles released before launch, along with 4 additional tracks. The music launch occurred on 15 March 2020, at the Leela Palace Hotel, Chennai. The album mostly recieved positive reviews from the critics.
Release Date
Master is scheduled to release on 13 January 2021 in over 1000 theatres in Tamil Nadu and its Telugu version. Its Hindi version will be released the day after. It was originally scheduled for a release on 9th April 2020 but got delayed to its current release date due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The worldwide distribution rights are acquired by Seven Seas Studios. Dheeraj Enterprises and East Coast Productions acquired the Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka distribution rights.
