Promised Neverland Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

As the kids venture into the forest, they notice how huge the forest was as compared to Grace Field. And also, they seem to know the bugs from somewhere. As the kids are all lurking around, Emma asks all of them to group up as they do not know what creature might show up. Later while having food, Gilda asks the kids to eat slowly so that their resources last longer. Ray asks Emma to rest as she was tired and hands her water. And they both have a conversation as to what their priority should be. They must reach the river to have a water source, but it seems dangerous due to pursuers. During which, Don and Gilda come to ask what their next objective was and where they were headed. Which was southeast, the place where William Minerva was at, according to the pen left by Norman.

William Minerva’s Pen

Promised Neverland Season 2 Ep. 2: Enemies or Allies?

Norman and Emma show the other kids, William Minerva’s pen and why they must go southeast.

The pen given by Norman is a guide provided by William Minerva. Through it, the kids know where to go. The pen, on opening, projects a screen giving the pen’s current location and a map. On touching it, the screen changes, and the picture of a stamp appears. This image has a Morse code on it, which on solving says the words “TOUCH ME”. On touching it, the projection further leads to other code. This time, it has to be decoded using the mythology book, which was the only book at Grace Field which had none of Minerva’s stamp. On solving it, the projector showed a message saying that if the holder of the pen needed help, they could go visit him at coordinates B06-32. This code is seen again when Ray scribbles on a tree, “Go 06-32 Pursuer,” before he is chased by the demons.

The Adventures of Ugo – A Guidebook

Promised Neverland Season 2 Ep. 2: Enemies or Allies?

The kids realize that the book “The Adventures of Ugo” is a guidebook to survival.

Throughout their journey, the kids feel that they had seen the trees and bugs somewhere. When one of the kids sees a plant and thinks she has seen it somewhere. The kids realize that they had seen it in a book called “Adventures of Ugo” by William Minerva. The plant was “Sea Anemones” and had drinkable water inside it, thus helping them avoid going to the river altogether. That’s when they realize that the story is actually a guidebook for survival. This knowledge revamps their trust in this unknown ally in the southeast. They march forward in their journey to hopefully find allies and go save Phil and others.

The Pursuit at Night

In the night, as they were walking through the jungle, a sound startles them. So all of them turn their lamps down, that’s when a monster appears and starts chasing them. Don and Gilda separated the kids into two based on their speeds. While Don lured the monster, Gilda took away with other kids. Seeing an opportunity to take down the monster, Ray takes the initiative and promises Emma that he will be back. So he asks Emma to join Gilda and others and head downwind. But when he is about to divert the monster, the pursuing demons finally arrive on the scene and kill it. Ray quickly hides behind a tree and scribbles some words before starting to flee. That’s when the demon makes a loud sound. Concerned for Ray, Emma decides to go back for him, but she soon falls unconscious due to a high fever.

Possible Allies?

Promised Neverland Season 2 Ep. 2: Enemies or Allies?

A girl wearing a hood appears in the jungle, which seems to guide the kids to safety.

Just when everything seemed hopeless and thinking that they had lost both Emma and Ray, a girl appears. This girl was wearing a hood and guided them to safety. Meanwhile, the demons have finally caught up with Ray. Being exhausted, Ray falls down but is soon saved by a man on a horse. Later, when Ray and Emma wake up, they realize that the people who saved them weren’t enemies as they had provided them with water and a bell to call for an emergency. So, they come to the conclusion that it could either be Minerva or someone he knows. The girl appears soon after, tells them that they were safe there, and guides them to others. That’s when she tells them that they didn’t know who Mr. Minerva was. As they keep walking, Ray and Emma see her feet and realize that they were demons too.

Ray’s Promise to Emma

Ray promises Emma that he will live and protect his family.

During Ray and Emma’s conversation in the forest, Ray notices that Emma is tired and offers her water. When he gets a glance at Emma’s ear, he feels terrible and apologizes to her. As he believes, if he had cooperated from the beginning, things may have turned out differently. Emma might not have had to cut her ear off or even hurt her hand. Emma, on the other hand, does not mind it at all and is just glad by the fact that Ray is alive and smiling. Ray promises to her that he will live and protect his family. He swears that he will not abandon them again so that she will not have to carry the burden alone.
