But many of us might not know the man behind this fashion house or his grandson Maurizio Gucci. Well, the history of Gucci dates back to 1921 when it was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence Tuscany. And the last of the Gucci family dynasty to run the brand was his grandson, Maurizio Gucci. In 1995 he was shot dead by a hitman hired by his ex-wife. Here comes Patrizia Gucci in the frame. Patrizia was his ex-wife and was arrested for this arranged murder in 1997. She had to spend 18 years in prison after she was granted an early release in 2016 from her 26 years conviction. And now she is back from prison, living a normal prison-free life.
Before this shocking scandal, Patrizia was an Italian socialite as well as a former Gucci chief advisor. Born in Vignola, Patrizia married Maurizio Gucci in 1972 and gave birth to two daughters in 1977 and 1981. Maurizio, however, betrayed her and left her alone to raise the two daughters for another woman. They both filed for divorce, which was finalized in 1994. In some of her interviews, Patrizia said that she was really hurt after this, and she wanted to kill her ex-husband and started to find someone to do the dirty work for her. Consequently, the hitman she hired killed Maurizio on the steps outside his office. After Reggiani was arrested, the media dubbed her the Black Widow.

After she was released in 2016, the matter settled, and people started to forget all this. But this fashion house scandal was refreshed by the Movie industry. Patrizia recently came to the limelight again after the posters and trailer of her biopic House Of Gucci were released on July 30. As per the official synopsis, “House of Gucci is inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control”. Ridley Scott’s film’s star-studded lineup goes as Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, and Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani.
The trailer itself has set the fans all ablaze with excitement. There is no denying the fact that before even it has been released, the biopic is already a smash hit. All credit goes to Lady Gaga’s stunning performance and look. Followed by a strong and spicy storyline. “A legacy worth killing for.” This should not come as a surprise that despite Lady Gaga in the main lead, it’s Patrizia who has amassed the most attention. Where is Patrizia Reggiani now?
Currently, Patrizia is in Milan, where she lives with her pet cat. After she was released from prison in 2016, she started working as a design consultant at a Milanese costume jewelry firm, Bozart. After the divorce, she was no longer allowed to use the sir name Gucci. But after all those happenings and all those years, she still considers herself a Gucci. “I still feel like Gucci, in fact, the most Gucci of them all,” she says. She received an annuity of $1.47 million, and even in her time in prison, she was being paid. This was a part of the divorce settlement where she was given the right to lifetime alimony; just like the Fans, Patrizia herself is very excited to see her life story on screen.
