And this is probably the first time the show has set foot with the idea of a pirate territory. The whole episode focuses on getting back the treasure that has been forgotten and battling the terrifying Sea Monsters.
The major notion standing to change the course of the earth. While Yasmin and The Doctor have a talk, The Doctor mentions her wife for the first time. This triggers a number of emotions within Yasmin, however, the makers of the show did not bring the much-needed development in Yasmin’s character. The episode introduces us to the glorious pirate Madame Ching. A character fierce in her actions as well as her words. Gruesome scenes of The Sea Devil relentlessly killing people in the village gives us a villainous vibe. A bonus element would be the Doctor’s sword fighting, something that wasn’t witnessed in previous episodes or any episode for that matter.
Doctor Who Special Episode: Review
It is great to witness the makers challenging themselves and trying new themes. A few mistakes here and there do not go unnoticed. There hasn’t been enough attention to detail. Madam Ching’s introduction has been a great addition, however, a little more information about her backstory would do great. As mentioned earlier, Yasmin’s character needs some development too.
The Sea Monsters have a deeper history than we can possibly imagine. The show makers should have given the audience a few details about the same, as they first appeared a long time ago. A tinge of their history and their evolution would have been great for the show. These small details would bring about a huge difference.
