The list included the Hotstar original The Empire, The Interview: Night of 26/11 starring Jackie Shroff, LOL: Enga Siri Paappom, released on Amazon Prime with many more others. However, the one series that stole the show was Kunal Kapoor and Shabana Azmi’s The Empire. The storyline of this Indian historical TV series depicts the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire. Several such stories have previously been given film and series adaptations. But Nikkhil Advan’s The Empire is based on the novel series “Empire of the Moghul” by Alex Rutherford. Kunal Kapoor made his digital debut as Babur while Shaban Azmi portrayed Esan Dawlat.
The Empire Season 1
Before you read any further, let me warn you that this section contains some major spoilers. And here, I will be discussing the major plot points of season 1. The official trailer was out on 6th August 2021, and the screenplay looked promising. The story opens up in Farghana and is followed by a young Babur ready to be crowned as the king. The 14-year-old Babur faces a lot of problems as he learns the tactics and skills necessary to become a ruler. The story continues to throw light on not only the bad aspects but also the compassionate and humane side of the first Mughal emperor.
Babur is really sensitive when it comes to the throne, and he spares no one if it’s his ‘Badshaahat’ that is at stake. He is dependent a lot on his Nani Jaan Esan Dawlat. Shaibani Khan is the arch-rival and is portrayed by Dino Maurya. Khan is a kingdom-less arrogant lad who wishes only the downfall of the Mughals. The entire plot revolves around their rivalry, and even when the war is over, it never felt short of enemies. The dialogues seem pretty empty, and the scenes lack emotional connection. To be more specific, this saga about love, war, and betrayal will not meet your expectations if you wish to learn about Indian history.

Why was #Uninstall Hoststar trending on Twitter?
Besides Kunal Kapoor and Shabana Azmi, the cast members include the television personality Drishiti Dhami, Aditya Seal, Dino Maurya, and Rahul Dev in major roles. The stunning performances by the main leads as well as supporting cast received mostly favorable critic reviews. However, with its release, the web series has already landed itself amidst the controversial pool and led to the trend “Uninstall Hotstar”. The makers were accused of lauding the Mughal invader Babur. Hotstar dismissed all the grievance complaints, and fans further went on to call the series the Indian version of “Game Of Thrones”. However, those who have watched all the 8 episodes will disagree with the previous statement. It is rather a sincere attempt at revisiting the Mughal history. But as per the response from the viewers, it looks like the series has majorly failed to win hearts.
The Empire Season 2 Release Date
The Empire Season 2 is most likely to be released in August 2022. The book on which primitively the series is based has 6 volumes in total. The first part is already streaming on Hotstar, and if you haven’t already watched it give it a try. Season 1 mostly focused on the first from the Mughal Line Babur. It is most likely that there will be 6 seasons dedicated to the 6 volumes of the novel series. The release date is not official, but from what the fans are speculating, it will be probably one year from now that the second season of The Empire will be streaming.
