Shamita Shetty is an Indian Bollywood actor and interior designer who was born on February 2, 1979. In 2000, she made her film debut in the hit Mohabbatein. She won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year for her depiction of Ishika. In 2009, she was a participant in the reality program Bigg Boss 3. She went on to compete in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8 (2015) and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 in 2019, where she was a finalist in both shows.

In 2005, she featured in the Bollywood film Fareb and 2009; she appeared in season 3 of the popular Indian reality show Big Boss. She completed her Bachelor of Commerce and Diploma in Fashion Designing at Saint Anthony’s Girls’ High School in Mumbai and Sydenham College in Mumbai, as well as SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai. Sunanda Shetty and Surendra Shetty are her parents.

Shamita was born in Mangalore to a Tulu Bunt family. Surendra, her father, and Sunanda, her mother, both work in the pharmaceutical business as producers of tamper-proof water caps. She is Shilpa Shetty’s younger sister.

She attended Mumbai’s St. Anthony’s Girls’ High School for her education. Shamita earned a fashion design certificate from SNDT College in Mumbai after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Sydenham College. She began her internship with renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra after that, but Manish recognized the potential in her and advised that she prepare for a career in acting. Shamita chose to pursue her passion for interior design in 2011 and designed Royalty, a club in Mumbai, as her first solo project. Her passion for interior design led her to pursue a diploma at London’s Central Saint Martins and Inchbald School of Design.

In 2000, she made her Bollywood debut in Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films flick Mohabbatein. For her portrayal of Ishika, she received the 2001 IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female. Soon after, she was renowned for her dance in Bollywood films such as “Sharara Sharara” in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and “Chori Pe Chori” in Saathiya (2002), as well as her acting in Zeher (2005), for which she received a Stardust Award nomination for Star of the Year – Female (2006). Shamita has also worked beside her sister Shilpa Shetty in the movie Fareb.
