Padukone will not be the first jury member from India at the Cannes Film Festival. There are eight other notable names on this list. Prominent director Mrinal Sen became the first Indian with this honor. Leading female artists Mira Nair, Nandita Das, and Arundhati Roy are also on the list. Big names like Sharmila Tagore and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are also present. Shekhar Kapur and Vidya Balan are the more recent names on the list. Indian cinema will hope to treat this path in the years to come. But one thing is for sure. Indian content is on the rise. Eventually, hosting a film festival of our own will be on the cards.
