The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion, Behind The Scenes From The Original

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air hit the whole world approximately 30 years ago. Although it still is one of the most loved sitcoms that have ever aired on TV. The show has cast Will Smith, who was quite young at that time, in their leadership role. Will was actually a rapper back then and was popularly known as the Fresh Prince. The show throws the entire spotlight on a streetwise young man who lives in West Philadelphia but moves in with his relatives to Beverly Hills. In honor of its 30th anniversary, the entire cast and the crew from the original project came back together to have a special reunion at HBO Max.

All of The Banks sat together in their old family living room, discussing their lives on the show. The cast even honored the memory of James Avery, who passed away back in 2013. They also shared stories from the set. Well, they even cleared the air on some topics that revealed a lot of secrets happening behind the scenes.

Daphne Reid did not want to be in the Show.

As for the heaviest topic that was discussed among all the fans of Fresh Prince is when Aunt Viv was recast. For the first three installments of the show, we saw that this role was reprised by actress Janet Hubert. It was later when she was replaced by Daphne Reid. As we all saw now, these two actresses had a very different take on the character. Reid brought in a softer version that portrayed the graceful dominance of Hubert carried in the earlier seasons.

However, it was revealed that there was a chance where Reid could have played the role of Aunt Viv from the very start of the show. In this special, the actress disclosed that when the series was casting characters back in 1999, she was surely offered a chance for it. Although, she denied it after hearing that it involves a certain rapper.

Alfonso Ribeiro made up the Carlton dance on the spot.

Well, whenever we witness the start of It’s Not Unusual by Tom Jones, fans get pretty sure that they are about to see the Carlton dance. But you all should know that this sequence would never have existed if actor Alfonso Ribeiro did not receive the role. When the rehearsal reading was going on, Rebeiro saw the Carlton dances on his script and went on to make it up on the spot. Also, this is not the first time that Ribeiro had to explain the dance to all of his fans.

Also, he has previously mentioned this in one of his interviews with Variety. He said that it was never initially thought of as something funny. According to him, the situation was like the character just happened to dance. Alfonso says that this dance was just Courtney Cox existing in the Bruce Springsteen video for Dancing in the Dark.
