Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the deadly shooting at last week’s Kansas City Chiefs parade, where a woman was killed and 22 others were wounded near Union Station shortly after the rally celebrating the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the charges on Tuesday, revealing that Lyndell Mays and Dominic Miller were facing murder charges stemming from the incident.

According to Baker, an argument between Mays and another individual at the rally escalated, leading Mays to allegedly draw a handgun. Others, including Miller, also brandished firearms during the altercation.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured Miller observing the argument from a distance before pursuing one of the individuals involved and opening fire. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two and local radio DJ, was tragically killed by the gunfire.

In a probable cause statement, it was detailed that Miller, after being shot himself, claimed he returned fire after being shot at, estimating he fired several rounds but was uncertain if he hit his intended target.

Separately, Mays allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with a group of individuals before brandishing his weapon. The situation quickly turned violent, with Mays reportedly chasing one individual while others in the group also drew their firearms and began shooting.

Both Mays and Miller have been charged with second-degree murder, along with lesser offenses, and are being held on a $1 million bond. Mays’ charges were initially sealed due to the active investigation, but they were unsealed on Tuesday. Miller was charged on Monday night.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with Baker emphasizing the commitment to holding all responsible parties accountable for their actions on that day.

Last week, authorities charged two juvenile suspects with gun-related and resisting arrest offenses in connection with the shooting. Their cases are being handled separately.

Lopez-Galvan’s family expressed gratitude for the charges brought against the suspects, acknowledging that while it doesn’t bring her back, it provides some comfort knowing that justice is being pursued for her and the other victims, as well as the community at large.
