It’s time for Florida’s 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Election, and the state is gearing up for a significant event. Florida operates as a closed primary state, meaning only residents registered with a specific party can participate in the primary.
In this instance, only Republican voters are eligible to cast their votes, as President Joe Biden has already secured the Democratic nomination for president.
The Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office clarified this process in a recent press release, stating, “Since the Florida Democratic Party nominated Joe Biden as their sole candidate and there are no other contests on the ballot in Leon County, only voters registered with the Republican Party of Florida will have a ballot in the Leon County PPP.”
It’s crucial to note that voters registered with the Democratic Party, a minor party, or no party affiliation will not receive a ballot for this election. The deadline for changing party affiliation in time for this election was February 20.
Former President Donald Trump emerges as the presumptive Republican nominee for president in this primary. Following his dominant performance in Republican polls during Super Tuesday earlier this month, all other major candidates have exited the races, solidifying Trump’s position as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.
