The French Prime Minister has confirmed a €149 million grant for Lhyfe’s green hydrogen production plant near Le Havre. This significant investment is part of the European Commission’s Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiative, aimed at accelerating hydrogen technology across Europe. The funding, first announced by the French government in 2024, underscores the strategic importance of the project in contributing to France’s and Europe’s decarbonization goals.
Phased Funding Supports Lhyfe’s Hydrogen Plant Near Yara Facility in Le Havre
The grant will be disbursed in phases, beginning with an initial €18 million advance by June 2025. This upfront funding will support investments made since 2022 and help initiate the next stages of the project. The remaining funds will be provided over four years based on verified project milestones. The plant, part of Lhyfe’s Green Horizon project, aims to begin operations by 2029, producing up to 34 tonnes of green hydrogen per day.

The plant will be strategically located near Yara’s facility in Le Havre, integrating directly into the region’s industrial decarbonization efforts. Yara, a major Norwegian chemical company, supports Lhyfe’s initiative as part of its own roadmap to reduce carbon emissions. The site has secured grid connections and power supply, and applications for construction and environmental approvals are already underway, ensuring a smooth transition to the construction phase.
Lhyfe Expands Green Hydrogen Reach Through Innovation, Pipeline Delivery, and Global Partnerships
Lhyfe has been actively producing and supplying green hydrogen since 2021, using a fleet of nearly 70 containers to serve industrial clients. The Green Horizon project marks a shift to pipeline-based delivery for greater efficiency and scalability. With the completion of this plant, Lhyfe will surpass 100 MW of installed electrolysis capacity, demonstrating its rapid growth and technological capability in the hydrogen sector.
In addition to domestic progress, Lhyfe is forming international alliances to expand its green hydrogen footprint. It recently signed a four-year supply agreement with INOCEL for hydrogen used in fuel cell testing. Moreover, a memorandum of understanding with Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy leader, outlines plans to co-develop large-scale hydrogen projects in Europe. These partnerships reflect Lhyfe’s broader commitment to advancing global clean energy solutions.
