Donald Trump faced setbacks this week in his attempts to dismiss felony charges against him, with a Georgia judge ruling against his bid to disqualify the prosecutor overseeing his case.

The case, centering on Trump’s alleged involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, saw Trump and his co-defendants challenging prosecutor Fani Willis, alleging an improper relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade.

However, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee deemed the evidence insufficient to prove an actual conflict of interest, allowing Willis to continue prosecuting if Wade stepped down, which he did.

While Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the election, the ruling paves the way for the case to proceed. Meanwhile, in a separate federal case in Florida, where Trump faces charges of mishandling state secrets, a judge rejected his bid to dismiss the case.

Despite these setbacks, Trump secured a 30-day delay in another trial related to a hush money payment to an adult film star, citing late disclosure of evidence.

Trump’s legal battles have drawn attention, with his supporters rallying outside courthouses. However, the former president continues to dismiss the charges as part of a “witch hunt” inspired by political motives, while his opponents push for accountability.

As Trump faces continued legal scrutiny, including being the first sitting or former president to be indicted on multiple felony counts, his legal challenges remain a focal point as the possibility of a rematch with Joe Biden looms in the upcoming election.
