A Democratic super PAC has made a huge investment in California’s congressional races, booking over $27 million in television and digital ads. This move underscores the importance of tight races in California in determining control of Congress in the upcoming November election.

The House Majority PAC, aligned with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, aims to hold Republicans accountable for what they perceive as anti-American policies. The organization’s president, Mike Smith, emphasized their commitment to flipping the House and electing Jeffries as the next Speaker.

The Republican counterpart, the Congressional Leadership Fund, has yet to reveal its spending plans but remains confident in GOP chances based on strong incumbents and favorable political conditions.

For Democrats, winning four seats is crucial to gaining control of the House, making California a key battleground due to its 52-member delegation and more competitive races resulting from independent redistricting.

The House Majority PAC’s spending plan targets 45 congressional districts nationwide, with a focus on California, including districts held by both Republicans and Democrats. The initial ad buy allocates substantial funds to the Los Angeles media market and includes Spanish-language messaging, reflecting the diversity and importance of these districts.

Specifically, the ads will reach voters in districts represented by GOP incumbents such as Mike Garcia, Ken Calvert, Michelle Steel, and Young Kim, as well as competitive races in Orange County, where Katie Porter’s vacated seat is up for contention.

Other spending targets Republican-held districts represented by David Valadao, John Duarte, and Kevin Kiley while also supporting Democratic incumbents like Josh Harder and Mike Levin.

The House Majority PAC’s investment underscores the high stakes and competitiveness of California’s congressional races in shaping the balance of power in the House of Representatives.
