It was a forgettable 2021/22 season for Man Utd. Quite the contrary of what it promised. Last season, they finished second in the league. They also played a decent brand of football in the attacking half. The signs were encouraging for the Utd fans.

Last Sunday, the 2021/22 Premier League(PL) season came to a close. Man Utd sits sixth on the league table. Their PL points tally of 58 is their lowest ever. Furthermore, they conceded 57 goals in the competition, the highest number since 1978/79. However, the stat that perfectly explains their torrid season is their goal difference (GD). United finished the season with a GD of zero. To put it into context, GD is counted by deducting the number of goals conceded from the ones scored.

United will have a new manager next season. Erik ten Hag is that man. Recently, ten Hag had his first press conference as the new boss. The fans are already backing him with his role.

2021/22 Premier League: A forgettable season for Man Utd

Man Utd boasts of a world-class set of players. But when this set comes together as one, it’s on a much lower level. They started the season off with a comprehensive victory against Leeds. They added Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo to the mix. But the defence never really gelled together. It soon became clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjær had run his limit as manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked after a 4-1 defeat against Watford.

Ralf Ragnick was brought in on an interim basis. However, he failed to implement his authority at the club. In the end, it proved to be a forgettable season for Man Utd.

Returning hero Ronaldo finished as the top scorer with 24 goals. He will play a part under ten Hag, as he revealed in his press conference.

Man Utd finishes this season as a forgettable one. At the same time, ten Hag’s arrival looks like the right move.
