Rock’s Top Style Icons
by Mike
Interpol takes the cake for dressing most dapper in music’s last decade. Your friendly next-door hipster wasn’t looking so snazzy until these New Yorkers came on the scene. The band did not originate the look, but they certainly revived it for musicians to come.
The now elderly Brit-pop King has not only been influencing music for over 20 years, but he’s still serving as a fashion icon for the industry. As Cocker has aged – gracefully, that is – his sense of style has continued to evolve. Keith Richards, I would be taking notes if I were you!
Their appearance – as their name suggests – is cold and dark, inspired by garage & post-punk rock of earlier years. They have come a long way from once looking like characters that jumped out of Tim Burton’s closet. Now, The Horrors lead the image of being the baddest rockers on the planet!
BRMC’s threads are as straightforward as their sound. Without gimmicks, who you see and hear is who they really are at heart. I witnessed the proof firsthand when they rode in on motorcycles to the Dangerbird office, helmets in hand. Stick to the classics to look bad ass – leather jacket, black shirt, and a cigarette.
The duo that is Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are always finely dressed. They will continue to be a distinct couple, coordinating their visual and musical chemistry until the bitter end! They inspire me to search for the Sharin to my Sune…
Dominic Chase’s chic is that of your average record store clerk. Nick Zinner looks like he just got back from a long night at a Goth club. Karen O dresses like she has ransacked a high fashion designer’s collection but doctored the pieces to her liking. Together, the three do not appear like they would be bandmates, but it works so well for them! Newbies, pay attention: Beards and plaid are played out.
I nearly missed these elegant Englishmen, much like their musicianship is generally overlooked in America. They offer touches of sleek, black, and mod that put them with the best on the list. U.K. fever is rarely wrong!
How does someone – whose habits suggest that he can drop dead at any moment – manage to always look put together? No matter what this man gets himself into, he is always found dressed impeccably. I’d bet that Doherty will look sharp all the way to the grave!
