Track Review: Savages – She Will
Written by: Mike
Silence Yourself– due out May 6th on Pop Noire / Matador.
“SAVAGES is not trying to give you something you didn’t have already, it is calling within yourself something you buried ages ago, it is an attempt to reveal and reconnect your PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL self and give you the urge to experience your life differently, your girlfriends, your husbands, your jobs, your erotic life and the place music occupies in your life. Because we must teach ourselves new ways of POSITIVE MANIPULATIONS, music and words are aiming to strike like lightning, like a punch in the face, a determination to understand the WILL and DESIRES of the self.
This album is to be played loud in the foreground.” – SAVAGES, 2013
One thing that has not been mentioned since the album’s release date was announced is how cinematic and iconic the album cover looks. The cinematic feel trickles down into the music of “She Will.” The music reminds me of background music to a car chase in a film. On “She Will,” Savages combine a visual feel with the live energy that put them on the map. The drums whale, the guitar is eerie, the bass tumps, and Jenny Beth howls just like she does live. It has a different feel than “Husbands,” but is still just as frantic and urgent. It just takes a while for those elements to build and then all of the energy explodes at the 0:52 mark. No doubt, there is a whole lot more where that came from – and we will find out May 6th!
