During an Australian radio podcast Fitzy & Wippa, director Baz Luhrmann, said that..

The pop singer was ultimately passed over for the lead part in Elvis.

“Harry is a talented actor. I would work on something with him,” he said. “The real issue with Harry is, he’s Harry Styles. He’s already an icon.”

Styles has two films coming out this fall:

Don’t Worry Darling

Olivia Wilde’s

My Policeman

Michael Grandage’s

Styles was also very interested in playing Elvis, said Luhrmann.

“Harry and I came to a place, genuinely. I mean, he was just desperate to put the suit on and explore. He’s such a great spirit, and I have nothing but great things to say about Harry Styles,”

While Styles was a solid contender for the part, Austin Butler brought a level of..

passion and spirituality to the role that Luhrmann couldn’t ignore.

Elvis was shot nearly a year ago, in March 2021, and will be released in theatres on June 23, 2022.
