Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, has criticized the hush money case against former President Donald Trump as “insane” as jury selection commenced on Monday.
She contended the case is driven by partisan motives, especially pointing to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s decision to prosecute following Donald Trump’s announcement of his 2024 presidential run.
“It is ridiculous that they are dragging this man into a New York City courtroom. It is so clear how partisan this is, that Alvin Bragg himself wouldn’t even take this case up until when, until Donald Trump announced he was running for president,” Lara Trump remarked on NewsNation’s “Morning in America.”

She dismissed the case as “ludicrous” but expressed confidence that it would not negatively impact the former president’s campaign efforts.
She highlighted that public interest generally wanes in such legal battles against him, often leading to an increase in campaign donations. “This doesn’t have anything to do with crime or with the right thing happening. It’s about politics,” she asserted.
The trial, which is set to last at least six weeks, poses a remarkable demand on Donald Trump’s time, potentially distracting him from the campaign trail. However, he plans to continue attending campaign events on his days off from court.

Donald Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records linked to payments made to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to prevent her from discussing an alleged affair with Trump ahead of the 2016 election.
Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, branding the proceedings as politically motivated and a continuation of a “witch hunt” against him. He also criticized the judge overseeing the trial shortly before his court appearance on Monday.
