Memory Tapes at Oscillations
by The Artistree
This video features Memory Tapes, who last headlined a special event at the Tribeca Grand [Hotel].
We came to enjoy an ambient, electronic show. We imagined the project’s solo musician, Dayve Hawk, in a DJ set-up – straightforward and chill. But what we witnessed was a distinct rock show! Hawk played guitar and sang while guest performer, Matt Maraldo, drummed away. The sound was purely insatiable! Bravo to their unexpected jam outs! The video speaks for itself.
Tidbits/What You Should Know:
1. Oscillations is the name of a random party that hosts up-and-coming artists in various venues throughout NYC. In the past, acts such as MGMT, Yeasayer, and Jay Reatard have been featured.
2. These shows, as we understand, are free AND have an open bar. The catch is that you have to RSVP in advance to get on the list – or be really fashion forward if you’re not.
3. The swank hotel generously opened up its entire first level for the event…the space is beautiful!
4. Patrons ranged from those who showed to be a “who’s who” and/or those there for the free booze. Many (unfortunately) made obvious that they didn’t know who – or what – Memory Tapes was.
5. Fashion highlights: Mr. Peanut and the Monopoly guy are now style icons?
6. Sitting on the stage should be frowned upon, as it is disrespectful to both the artist and the venue. Especially, if you do it for the show’s entire duration!
7. Plan to enjoy Memory Tapes at some point. Beware: The music is enhanced – to a new level – live! It may even take away from how much you’ve enjoyed the recording. You’ll believe that you’re listening to two separate bands – in a good way!
Special Thanksto Ricky Pinto for his musical receptors!
