What Happened To Comedian Sinbad And Has He Recovered From His Stroke?

What Happened To Comedian Sinbad?

After suffering a crippling stroke that left him ventilator-dependent and in a medically-induced coma, actor and comedian Sinbad has been out of commission for two years. The 66-year-old is doing better today, despite his family’s claims that his particular scenario only had a 30% survival chance.

On a website intended to inform his followers of his development, his family stated that “his improvement is really nothing short of remarkable.” His limbs, which were previously believed to be “dead,” are now awakening as he performs the necessary actions to regain his ability to walk.

Who Is Sinbad?

Few comedians were more attractive in the 1990s than Sinbad. The 66-year-old, who was born David Adkins, chose his stage name because he admired the comic book character Sinbad the Sailor, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Sinbad began his stand-up career on Star Search, then made several HBO special appearances, beginning as Sinbad: Brain Damaged in 1990, before pushing his celebrity to television and movies. His first significant television role came in 1986 when he was hired as a series regular on the ephemeral Redd Foxx Show.

This was followed by a four-season run on A Different World, anchoring Saturday Night Live in 1992, and his very own beginning vehicle with The Sinbad Show, which lasted for two seasons between 1993 and 1994.

Furthermore, Sinbad appeared in several movies during the 1990s, including Jingle All the Way, Necessary Roughness, Houseguest, and Good Burger. The comedian’s popularity with the general public began to wane in the 2000s, but he was still able to find scene-stealing performances.

The most notably in the 2008 installment of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, “Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life,” where he costarred with Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas as a patient in a rehab facility. The 2022 Atlanta episode “The Goof Who Sat By the Door” featured a talking head cameo by Sinbad recently.

Sinbad was said to be making progress after a recent stroke in November 2020. Sinbad, their adored father and husband, is recovering after a recent stroke, his family announced in a message posted to the Instagram page at the time.

“For many generations, Sinbad has been a beacon of love and joy. Even though he is just starting his path to recovery, we are confident and hopeful that he will soon infuse laughter into our hearts,” the statement read.

“Please continue to pray for his recovery. Our family appreciates your love and support. Additionally, we ask that you respect our right to privacy at this time.”

Two years after experiencing the ischemic stroke, which was caused by a blood clot that moved from his heart to his brain, Sinbad’s family announced a significant health update on Monday, Nov. 21. They said that he is now learning to walk. He still has a long way to go until recovering fully and is still struggling to recover control of his limbs.
