In a surprising turn of events, Hollywood celebrity Josh Gad, best known for his iconic portrayal of Olaf’s voice in Disney’s beloved “Frozen” franchise, took to social media on a Saturday to share some unexpected news. He regretfully announced his absence from the afternoon performance of his Broadway hit, “Gutenberg! The Musical!” due to a medical emergency that had suddenly arisen.

In a heartfelt video message posted early Saturday afternoon, the Tony-nominated entertainer expressed, “Not the news I’d like to share, but life happens.” Gad further explained, “Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to this afternoon’s performance of ‘Gutenberg.’ I’m currently dealing with a medical emergency that, despite my initial intention to wait until Monday for treatment, my medical team advised immediate attention.”

While Gad didn’t delve into the specifics of his health issue, he optimistically hinted at a speedy recovery, writing in his post, “So, off to the hospital for (hopefully) quick treatment,” and adding, “Then, with any luck, [I] will be back by this evening.”

This prominent actor, renowned for his role in “Beauty and the Beast,” has previously made waves on Broadway, gaining acclaim for his portrayal of Elder Cunningham in the 2011 production of “The Book of Mormon.” In an exciting reunion, Gad has joined forces with his close friend and fellow “Mormon” co-star, Andrew Rannells, for their involvement in “Gutenberg!”

The show itself is described as “a hilarious new musical about an unintentionally hilarious new musical.” It unfolds the tale of two friends, Bud Davenport (brought to life by Gad) and Doug Simon (embodied by Rannells), who embark on a creative journey to craft a production centered around Johannes Gutenberg, the pioneering inventor of the printing press.

Currently gracing the stage at the James Earl Jones Theatre, “Gutenberg!” is captivating audiences with its limited run, scheduled to conclude on January 28.
