The on-screen chemistry between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic extended beyond the film set, fostering a lasting offscreen friendship. The Oscar-winning duo, who portrayed Jack and Rose in James Cameron’s iconic romance drama early in their careers, have maintained a close bond over the years. In a recently released behind-the-scenes featurette from the film’s upcoming 4K Ultra HD DVD release, Winslet reflected on her enduring relationship with DiCaprio.

Opening up about their connection, Winslet expressed, “Once I started working with Leo, we were able to kind of find our own rhythm.” In a clip acquired by Entertainment Tonight, she reminisced about the immediate connection they shared, describing how they “clicked immediately, right away.” Winslet fondly recalled DiCaprio’s unique qualities, noting his “mess of long, skinny, uncoordinated limbs” and his captivating, effervescent energy that made the experience enjoyable. “We’re definitely gonna get along,” she thought at the time, and indeed, they did.

Characterizing her co-star on Titanic as a “ferociously intelligent man,” Winslet went into detail about DiCaprio’s painstaking preparation for the part. His interest also stretched to comprehending the historical background, in particular the lives and histories of the lower classes, as well as the complexities of their travel, such as how they paid for their tickets.

The friendship that was created while filming Titanic has persisted, as Winslet has stated that she and DiCaprio are still close friends. Even though they have a lot going on with different projects, they communicate frequently and in real-time.

Winslet highlighted the value of their common history as a means of bonding, underscoring the rarity and significance of such enduring friendships in the contemporary world. In the modern world, she said, “to have friendships that bind you, and that shared history, it’s really something.”
