Super Tuesday has arrived in North Carolina, marking a critical moment in the 2024 primary election season. Polls across the state open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
Unlike early voting, where voters could cast a ballot at any polling place in their registered county, those voting on Tuesday must do so at their assigned precinct.
The NC State Board of Elections has provided an online tool for voters to find their precinct, congressional and judicial districts, and sample ballots. Additionally, voters in Mecklenburg County can access more election information on their county’s website.
It’s important to note that a photo ID is required to vote in North Carolina. The new statewide rule went into effect ahead of the 2023 municipal elections.

Accepted forms of photo ID include a North Carolina driver’s license, a state ID from the NCDMV, a driver’s license or non-driver ID from another state if the voter registered in North Carolina within 90 days of the election, a U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport card, among others.
One of the major races to watch is the Republican presidential primary, in which former President Donald Trump faces former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
While Haley won the Washington, D.C. primary this past weekend, Trump is expected to secure the nomination, holding a wide margin over the former governor and U.N. ambassador.
Other races to watch include the battles for the Republican nominations in U.S. House districts 8 and 10, both of which are being vacated by incumbents and feature prominent candidates vying to replace them. Additionally, there is a fight for the Republican gubernatorial nomination on Tuesday’s ballot.
In the Democratic primary, President Joe Biden is the only candidate on the ballot, and current Attorney General Josh Stein is the favorite to win the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
