This is Us is a family drama series that aired on NBC in 2016. The series focuses on the family of two parents and their three different children in separate timelines and what their lives were like. Recap of the 6th Episode
The episode gave us more of an insight into Randall’s birth mother. Randall and Beth visit Hal for a cup of tea. We later get to see a flashback of Laurel’s upbringing and childhood. Her father tells her to pay more attention to the mass, and her brother tells her to step up to her father. Laurel gets home late as she went to a swim and her father threatens to beat her up if she ever revisits Aunt May. At present, Laurel and Jackson wonder how their father could hate his own sister.
Later, Hal says that he became a fisherman to support his family. That day during his fishing, he heard Laurel almost drowning and saved her. Laurel mentions how her relationship with her father was so complicated because he was extremely strict. He even once forced her to marry a man named Marshall as he gave him his permission to propose to her, and she had to say yes to it. She wanted to run away to Chicago once and asked Hal to come with her, but he refused.
Randall wants to know from Hal that why William told him that his mother died. Hal says that she did die as the EMTs found her unresponsive, and that’s when William took away Randall. Hal later mentions that Laurel ended up in the hospital after having her baby and was later arrested for having drug possession. In prison, when her father gave her a phone call, and she hung up. She was later sent to a Californian prison like the ones in Pittsburgh were crowded.

She was later released in 1985, and the first thing she did was visit her Aunt May. She told her that she had a baby boy with a man she loved, and she doesn’t know where he is. She then meets Hal again and mentions that he is married and now they’re expecting a baby.
Hal and Laurel had a few moments, and it was later revealed that Laurel was diagnosed with breast cancer and that it was inoperable as the tumor was so aggressive. She had only 2 years left to live, and she lived it to the fullest. She wanted what’s best for her son and hoped that he had the best life ahead of him.
Later, Randall goes to the lake one night and envisions reuniting with his mother. He says that he wasn’t even aware that he was looking for her, and now he was, she is now gone. All he needs to do is let go of his pain and let go of his sadness. The episode ends on a happy note for Randall as he knows that two imperfect people actually loved him.
This Is Us Season 5 Episode 7: Release Date
The 7th episode will release on January 19th, 2021, and it will focus on Kevin, who is on his way back from Vancouver as Madison is in labor, and he has to go back there to be in time for his incoming baby. All the previous episodes are now available on NBC and Amazon Prime.
