Ex-CD Projekt Team Unveils ‘Dawnwalker,’ a New Dark Fantasy RPG from Rebel Wolves Studio

Rebel Wolves, a new studio formed by ex-CD Projekt veterans, including “The Witcher 3” game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has officially unveiled its inaugural game, “Dawnwalker.” The announcement of this dark fantasy RPG follows speculation about the game’s title circulating online since late last year, according to ReelZap.

Founded in 2022, Rebel Wolves set out with an ambitious mission to enhance the cRPG genre, placing a strong emphasis on crafting emotionally resonant stories. Initially, the studio described its first venture as a “AAA dark fantasy” game, powered by the Unreal 5 engine, but had not revealed its name.

Details regarding “Dawnwalker” have been limited, but CEO Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work on “Cyberpunk 2077,” suggested that while the game might not match the vastness of “The Witcher,” it could feature a denser array of quests. He likened its scope to that of “The Witcher 3’s” acclaimed expansion, “Blood and Wine.”

Towards the end of last year, online speculations about the game grew, particularly after Twitter user Kurakasis unearthed various trademarks and domain registrations hinting at the game’s title. It was speculated to be “Dawnwalker: Origins,” a single-player, open-world RPG intended for PC and next-gen consoles, and potentially the start of a larger Dawnwalker saga.

In confirming “Dawnwalker,” Rebel Wolves broke from their typical reticence about rumors. The announcement was accompanied by concept art depicting a warrior descending from above, hinting that a more detailed reveal of the project might be forthcoming.

Rebel Wolves’ team is composed of seasoned industry professionals, including narrative director and chief writer Jakub Szamałek, design director Daniel Sadowski, animation director Tamara Zawada, and art director Bartłomiej Gaweł. Their collective experience spans across celebrated titles like “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Thronebreaker,” “Shadow Warrior 2,” and the “Witcher” series, promising a rich pedigree for their upcoming project.
