The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Political Action Committee, recognized as the leading organization in the United States advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights, has officially backed Congressman Ruben Gallego for the U.S. Senate seat from Arizona.
The HRC PAC plans to activate its extensive network of volunteers, members, and supporters to rally behind Gallego and other candidates who support equality. The goal is to mobilize the state’s nearly 1.3 million Equality Voters.
Ruben Gallego‘s track record demonstrates his deep commitment to allyship and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. From challenging the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy during his time in the Marine Corps to opposing Arizona’s ban on same-sex marriage and supporting the Equality Act in Congress, Gallego has been a steadfast ally.
His dedication extends beyond LGBTQ+ rights to national security and economic improvement efforts. The HRC PAC expresses enthusiasm for encouraging Equality Voters to support Gallego’s Senate campaign, highlighting his consistent fight for equality.
Gallego expressed pride in receiving the HRC’s endorsement, acknowledging the organization’s significant contributions to enhancing the lives of LGBTQ+ Americans.
He emphasized the strength our nation derives from this advocacy and expressed eagerness to continue this partnership in the Senate, aiming to improve the lives of Arizonans across the state.
Before his congressional tenure, Gallego served as a Marine in Iraq. He later became a Phoenix community organizer and a member of the Arizona State House.
His congressional service since 2014 has seen him rise to prominent positions within the House Armed Services Committee and as Chairman of the Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee, playing a vital role in guiding the nation’s special forces and intelligence operations.
Gallego, a founding supporter of the Equality Act, also serves as a Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. Equality Voters in Arizona, part of a diverse and widespread group across America, are united by their support for LGBTQ+ equality. This group is typically younger, more racially diverse, and includes more women than the general voter base.
They are familiar with and trust the HRC brand and are more inclined towards supporting organizations focused on specific issues rather than political candidates or parties.
With Gallego’s endorsement, the HRC PAC aims to harness the power of Equality Voters to ensure his victory, demonstrating the collective power of advocacy and electoral engagement.
