About The Artistree
Culture reporting: music, film, art and the people making it.
What we cover
- Music - Records, artists, the industry and the live circuit.
- Film - Cinema, streaming and the people behind it.
- Art - Galleries, exhibitions, artists and the market.
- Books - Publishing, writers and what is worth reading.
- Stage - Theatre, comedy and live performance.
- Culture - Where the arts meet money, policy and technology.
That list is deliberately narrow. We are a culture title, and we would rather be genuinely useful on six subjects than thin across twenty.
How we work
We work from primary sources: the work itself, the people who made it, box office and chart data, funding announcements, gallery and label statements, court and company filings where the story calls for them.
Where we learn of something from a press release or another publication, we treat it as a lead and go back to the original before we write. We do not republish press releases as articles, and we do not rewrite other publications' work. Where a claim rests on a document or a figure, we link to it so you can check.
Some of our reporting is produced with the assistance of AI tools. Every story is reviewed by a human editor before it is published.
A note on this site's history
This domain previously published a large volume of general news and celebrity material that had little to do with the arts and cited no sources. None of it has been carried over. Those pages have been retired rather than left in place, and the site has been rebuilt from nothing.
We would rather start with an empty archive than an untrustworthy one.
Corrections
If we have got something wrong, tell us at editor@theartistree.fm. We will correct it, and the article will record that it was corrected and when. Our editorial standards set out how.
