Editorial standards

Where our reporting comes from

Primary sources: the work itself, the people who made it, chart and box office data, label, gallery and publisher statements, funding and grant announcements, and company or court filings where a story turns on them.

Where we learn of something from a press release or another publication, we treat it as a lead and go back to the original before writing. We do not republish press releases as articles, and we do not rewrite other publications' reporting.

Reviews and criticism

A review is one person's judgement and we present it as such. We do not agree to copy approval, and we do not share a verdict with a label, publisher, gallery or studio before publication.

Where we were given something - a ticket, a proof, a screener, a private view - we say so in the piece. It does not oblige us to cover it, or to be kind.

AI assistance and human review

Some of our reporting is produced with the assistance of AI tools. Every story is reviewed by a human editor against its sources before it is published. Nothing publishes automatically.

What we do not do

We do not cover general news, politics or world affairs. This is a culture title, and a masthead that wanders into everything is worth nothing on anything.

We do not run unsourced celebrity rumour.

Images

Where we have a photograph, still or official image of the subject, we use it and say where it came from. Where we do not, we use a clearly credited library image labelled as an illustration, so it is obvious it accompanies the article rather than depicts its subject. All images are hosted here - nothing is loaded from a third party.

Corrections

We correct what we get wrong and say that we have, on the article, with the date. Never silently. Send them to editor@theartistree.fm.

Independence

Advertising has no influence on what we cover. Sponsored material, if we carry any, is labelled and is not presented as reporting. Any commercial relationship with someone we are writing about is disclosed in the piece.
