Muv-Luv Alternative Episode 6 has been released and is possibly the best episode of the anime series yet. It seems like they have completed all the formalities of a mere introduction. And now we are talking about the real deal of the season. This week’s episode gave the impression that things will really improve from here. There are some things that will mean more to you if you are into visual novels and have already read this one. But if you are an anime-only viewer, you don’t have to worry so much. You will absolutely enjoy the episode and the season itself.
Now, the review of Muv-Luv Alternative Episode 6 will begin. It will have spoilers for the episodes but nothing regarding the visual novel. It will be anime-focused only.
The Episode Commences With A Political Conspiracy
The episode starts showing the mysterious man who accosted Shirogane in the final scene of the last week’s episode. As it looks, he is Mikoto’s father, Yoroi Sakon. It seems that her dad works with the Imperial Ministry of Intelligence, and he is aware of the death of this world’s original Shirogane. So, He has come to find out who this Shirogane is. But Kouzuki, who is working on Alternative IV, is not communicating enough with the Intelligence ministry.
Yoroi informs them that some people in the Imperial military are making some ‘ominous moves and setting up a ‘Strategic Studies Group.’ They tell everyone if they ‘take action, they could establish a military and political power vacuum in Japan. And the anti-Alternative countries and factions within the United Nations could take advantage of that. This explains that regardless of the BETA invasion, there are some countries who oppose all these “Alternative” plans. This makes us wonder what their plans are to defeat the aliens.
Yoroi says that people have been suspicious because of how immensely Kouzuki’s group has been prepared for some recent attacks.
Shirogane Discovers More About the Other World
Then the next scene commences, and we’re shown that Shirogane is experiencing another vivid dream about Kagami Sumika. She also dreams of the time they spent together in his real and original world. He then tells Kouzuki everything about his dreams. She runs some tests on him while he is asleep. She quickly figures out that despite his body remaining in this world, his mind is returning to his original world in his dream state. He could return to that world if he could find out how to control the way he travels across different worlds. But Shirogane is persistent in his decision to stay in this world. He decides to ambush the BETA invasion before returning to his own world.
Kouzuki says that his original world was weakened when he was dismissed from it. So, the world is trying to take him back. But if he doesn’t want to wind up there permanently, she has to send him back from time to time to get the formulas her counterpart self had already discovered. She requires those formulas to create an “000” unit. Kasumi helps him to maintain a robust bond with their universe during these experiments.
There’s a short scene that shows Shirogane having lunch with the gang and Kasumi. Kasumi didn’t know how to interact properly with other people. She tries to feed him with good intentions. But the other women misunderstand her and get really mad at Shirogane. This can be understood better if you can read the visual novels of the same.
Kouzuki’s experiments become successful. And Shirogane is able to return for a short period of time and see Sumika. Somehow he finishes up walking in on her while she is using the restroom. Embarrassed, he immediately falls back into the BETA world. The following part gets interesting because, for some reason, he can’t say what he intends to do. Instead, he is only able to watch himself say other things to her. It might happen because he jumped back into the past, and everything that happened couldn’t be changed. But Kouzuki said otherwise. He said it was because he did not entirely materialize in the other world.
With a firm resolution, Shirogane vows to make it right the next day. But once he’s fully materialized, he can only talk to Kouzuki, so he doesn’t change his original world often. He then focuses on Sumika to help completely materialize this time. In the next scene, they show a flashback of his original world, where Shirogane is kissing Sumika.
Everything works well, and Shirogane winds up in his original world. He also traveled back in time a bit. His ends up in November 2001. As he was told, he immediately found Kouzuki there. This Kouzuki is a much cooler and calmer version of the one in the BETA world. It can happen because of the alien invasion, or maybe she’s honestly like that. Kouzuki informs him that she requires three days to get the formulas he needs. While leaving, Kouzuki tells herself that she wants to show this to Marimo.
The story can turn in any direction from here. Is Shirogane going to stay some more days in this world and then return? We’ll find the answers in the next episode.
I will give Episode 6 8 out of 10 because of its quick-paced but fun storytelling. It is surely going to be one of the best episodes of this season.
