Netflix is always on its toes when it comes to thrillers. One can find a wide variety of thrillers on the platform. One such movie released last year on May 14 is The Woman in the Window. The movie was adapted from a 2018 novel of the same name by pseudonymous author A. J. Finn. Directed by Joe Wright, the movie has some of the most amazing stars cast we will get to in a minute.
The movie was initially scheduled to have a theatrical release by 2Oth Century Fox. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its rights were sold to Netflix and were released in 2021. The film failed to achieve popularity and was criticized for its direction. This comes as a great shock coming from the director of movies like Pride & Prejudice (2005), Anna Karenina (2012), and the romantic war drama Atonement (2007). However, the movie was still praised for the cast’s fantastic performances.
Amy Adams, a two Golden Globe Awards winner, is famous for movies like arrival, sharp objects, etc. Gary Oldman is renowned for his role as Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. So, He is also famed for his recurring character of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series.
Synopsis of the movie
The movie follows a former therapist Anna Fox, an agoraphobic woman. Alone and a recovering addict, Anna is in the habit of watching over her neighbors from her two-story building. Creepy, we know, right! She starts to watch over the recently shifted Russel’s family. One night, she witnesses the murder of Jane Russell. But much to her shock, the next day, she meets Jane, who is very much alive. BUT, get ready for this, is an entirely different woman.
Being an alcoholic and a recovering patient, nobody tends to believe her. Besides this, what follows in the story is a twisty tale of reality versus appearance. Anna’s gripping tension with her condition and the murder she witnessed that night.

One of the main twists of the movie is- did the murder happen? So, spoiler alert! The murder did happen, and Anna was not hallucinating what she saw. But it is later revealed that the woman murdered was not Jane but Katie, Ethan’s biological mother.
And the killer all along was Ethan, who was always creepily observing Anna all along. What a fantastic Tit for Tat! Ethan is suspicious throughout the movie and finally reveals that he is the serial killer. In a highly tensed sequence, Anna pushes Ethan through a faulty skylight to his death and can save herself from him.
