In 2018, we first met our first black superhero on screen. In the world of many different superheroes like Thor, Captain America, Spiderman, etc., how many are there who are black? The answer would be none. This is not only sad but also informs about the ignorance of other cultures in popular media. The need to diversify the characters we see on-screen is especially important because of the target audience of such movies and shows. These movies mostly focus on children, which makes it essential to have diversity in their superheroes. This changed in 2018 with the first African Black superhero in the form of Black Panther.
Black Panther is an MCU superhero. It is based on the comics of the same name and was adapted into a movie in 2018. The film is all set to have its sequel release called Black Panther: Wakanda forever, and it will be an understatement to say that we are excited. Read ahead to know everything we know about the movie, including the plot and who will return for the sequel. We will also disclose the release date of the film.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever- Plot
The movie was all set to release in the June of 2021. But with various issues regarding casting and the unfortunate demise of the protagonist Chadwick Boseman, the film got delayed. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic also played a role in its delay. We saw how T’Challa assumed the throne of Wakanda after his father’s death. The prequel also saw how he ruled the kingdom and its people.
While there is very little public information about the movie’s plot, we are speculating that it will focus on Wakanda. Since the directors and executives decided not to recast the role of T’Challa after Boseman’s demise, the movie might explore the mythology of Wakanda and its people.
The cast of Black Panther 2
The movie will sadly not have T’Challa after Chadwick Boseman’s unfortunate demise due to colon cancer. Marvel Studio’s Victoria Alonso said, “Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, which is not just in fiction. Besides this, we are taking a little more time to see how we will be able to return to history, to honor this chapter of what has happened. As we all know, the incident was so unexpected, painful, and terrible.”
The cast members returning for the sequel are as follows:
- Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia
- Danai Gurira as Okoye
- Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross
- Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi
- Letitia Wright as Shuri
- Winston Duke as M’Baku
- Angela Bassett as Ramonda
- Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams
