Friday, October 21, 2022, we saw The Peripheral premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on the same-titled book by William Gibson. The Peripheral tells the tale of Flynne Fisher, a young woman who lives in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her Marine veteran brother Burton and their ailing mother.
In 2032, Flynne and Burton play simulation games (also known as Sims) to make extra money to pay for their mother’s mounting medical expenses. Eventually, Flynne is allowed to try out a new Sim that has her stealing a vital secret from a company called the Research Institute which is situated in a futuristic London.
Flynne’s hopes of finding a purpose, love, and glamour are all closer to becoming a reality thanks to the other world, but she and her loved ones are also put in danger because what happens in the game appears to have an impact on the players’ real-life as well.
