Netflix’s show ‘The Witcher’ has garnered a lot of attention from fans and turned many heads. However, Anya Chalotra’s character Yennefer of Vengerberg, has dropped many jaws.

The beautiful and bewitching sorceress, played by Anya, who lured Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) throughout 1st season, had to endure a lot of pain to bring the character to life.

In the first three episodes, she comes off as very shy, lonely, and an outcast who is disowned by her family. Yennefer struggles with a hunchback and a deformed jaw. As she trains in witchcraft, she believes that because of her looks, she will never be loved by anyone.

Even though many characters in the show have undergone transformations but Yennefere’s transformation is truly amazing. Let’s see how Anya Chalotra undergoes this process while she shares her experience during the shoot, which will definitely make you appreciate her more.

How Yennefer transformed into a beautiful sorceress?

Yennefer’s stepfather had sold her to sorceress ‘Tissaia de Vries,’ who trained her without disclosing the true nature of the sacrifice she must make. While the procedure to transform her hunchback and deformed jaw into a beautiful, enigmatic sorceress is being performed,  Yennefer learns that she will never bear children now.

Her womb gets ripped from her body and destroyed before altering her back and jaw.  The gaining of her beautiful looks and body to lure men under her spell has come at the huge cost of losing her ability to birth children.

Anya says that the decision her character, Yennefer, took was brutal that will likely haunt her in the future seasons, where she will try to find a way around it.

Anya’s Experience with Transformation Procedure

To perform the character pre-transformation, Anya had to wear a back prosthetic and mouthguard to complete the look. She described her experience as extremely uncomfortable as she had to get massaged daily after long hours of difficult postures.

But all the pain endured only made her add more density to her character as it helped her to better understand Yennefer and to enter her headspace.

Anya believes that this was her biggest acting change, to play the role of a 14-year-old and a 70-something in the same series while she herself is in her 20s. Thankfully the role of young Yennefer was cut short after the painful transformation, so Anya did not have to keep the back prosthetics on for longer.

She said that it was more difficult for her stunt double as her back piece was heavy, but Anya’s was only sweaty.

Post transformation, Anya was not in prosthetics for the role of younger Yennefer but had done heavy makeup and eyeshadows to support her new role. Anya’s performance in the show has taken everyone by the spell same as her character, Yennefer’s abilities.
