It appears that many individuals have been mispronouncing the last name of Travis and Jason Kelce.
In a clip from “Inside the NFL,” Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones can be heard correcting the pronunciation, stating, “So y’all know it’s not even Travis ‘Kel-see?'”
This revelation might not be news to listeners of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, “New Heights.” In a February 2023 episode, Travis and Jason discussed the topic of exposing family secrets with their parents, Donna and Ed Kelce.
During the podcast, Jason questioned their father, Ed, about the decision to change the pronunciation of their last name. Ed explained that he grew tired of correcting people and even admitted that their mother, Donna, also thought it was pronounced “Kel-see.”
The resurfaced clip from “Inside the NFL” brings attention to the brothers’ conversation with their father on the podcast. In the episode, the Philadelphia Eagles center continued to press Ed about why they only discovered the original pronunciation in their 20s.
Ed confessed that he didn’t correct anyone, not even Donna, and suggested, “Do whatever you want. I did!”
Travis, addressing the confusion, stated that he’d go by both pronunciations, while Jason preferred the incorrect way, emphatically stating, “Don’t call me ‘Kels.'”
The revisited clip coincides with reports of Jason contemplating retirement from the NFL after the Eagles’ playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite emotional scenes and rumors, Jason addressed the speculation on “New Heights,” stating that he hasn’t made a decision yet and emphasized the need for respect in any future announcements.
Travis also addressed retirement rumors, expressing his love for the game and his intention to continue playing. He mentioned the possibility of exploring scripted work after his football career ends, citing his experiences hosting “Saturday Night Live” and making cameo appearances in 2023.
While Jason considers his future with the NFL, Travis reassured reporters of his commitment to playing football and hinted at potential off-season involvement in on-camera projects for the league.
