Our Flag Means Death — HBO Max March 2022/Originals

Loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, Our Flag Means Death stars Rhys Darby in the titular role in a period comedy. One of the major attractions of this comedy series is director Taika Waititi. The trailers for the series show the director flexing his acting chops where he brings his usual eccentricities. The story follows Captain Bonnet, an aristocrat who leaves his comfortable life and family to pursue a new career as a pirate.

Set in 1717 during the Golden Age of Piracy, the show sees Bonnet trying to prove himself as a pirate with no knack for it. The failings are what make the story, and there’s hilarity in copious amounts here. We follow him and his crew as they struggle to keep afloat amid a war for survival in the waters. Mark your calendars as the next three episodes of season 1 are arriving on March 10, 2022.

The official synopsis for the film reads, “In a future where Mars is terraformed and colonized by the best humanity has to offer, two college students wind up joining forces and sneak onboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to be united with their significant others.”

Mark your calendars for this one if you’re looking for some romance in a sci-fi setting. This is certainly not the only romance flick in the HBO Max March 2022 roster, but it’s one you’d not want to miss if you’re seeking a new original story.
