Friends of Taraji P. Henson have stood by her side ever since she opened up about the widespread problem of salary disparity in the entertainment business. Other celebs are supporting the 53-year-old actress after she opened up about her experiences with uneven pay throughout her career in an intense interview.

Using a clip from the SiriusXM radio interview, actress Gabrielle Union, 51, affirmed, “Not a damn lie told. Not. A. Damn. Lie.” Union went on to highlight the dedication of celebrities like Henson to advocating for change, acknowledging the toll it takes on their mental health, well-being, and careers.

After Henson’s comments on the disparity in wages between Hollywood’s supporting cast and crew, Keke Palmer entered the discussion. Palmer highlighted how the entertainment sector and other businesses are comparable, pointing out that controlling finances and needing a committed staff are two things that come with establishing a brand in Hollywood.

Palmer highlighted the financial realities that are essential for success in America and acknowledged the challenges that come with playing several roles in the business, which are sometimes motivated by need. She ended with a potent Beyoncé quotation, riffing on Biggie’s adage “More money, more problems,” and said, “America, we have a problem.”

Henson addressed the widespread problem of wage inequality in her SiriusXM interview with passion, highlighting the industry’s demands for unwavering commitment and hard labor. She expressed displeasure at continuing wage setbacks despite breaking through glass barriers and linked these financial difficulties to the high costs associated with her support staff and taxes.

Despite her notable accomplishments, Henson revealed the human aspect of her struggle and shed light on how renegotiations frequently put her at a disadvantage. She candidly discussed the emotional toll of keeping up a happy front when negotiating a contract, as she often finds herself standing in for inadequate pay.

Henson stressed that because of the unforgiving nature of the entertainment industry, it is imperative to diversify one’s sources of income. To safeguard her individuality and well-being in the midst of the severe challenges faced by the profession, she started side projects like her TPH haircare line.

As a demonstration of support for Henson, other professionals in the field are elevating her voice and bringing attention to the structural problems that continue to plague performers in Hollywood, especially Black women.
