President Tsai Ing-wen recently hosted a delegation of U.S. think tank scholars at the Presidential Office, including prominent figures such as Bonnie Glaser, the German Marshall Fund’s Indo-Pacific Program Managing Director, and Rick Waters, Managing Director of Eurasia Group.
In her welcoming address, President Tsai expressed gratitude for the delegation’s ongoing attention to cross-strait dynamics and unwavering support for Taiwan. She noted that their scholarly contributions have enhanced global understanding of Taiwan’s pivotal role in the region.
President Tsai underscored the significance of the U.S. as a key partner in both security and economic realms. She highlighted the signing of the first batch of the U.S.-Taiwan 21st-Century Trade Initiative and expressed optimism for the resolution of double taxation issues between the two nations.
In response, Bonnie Glaser commended President Tsai for her steadfast leadership over the past eight years, which has upheld peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait while safeguarding Taiwan’s freedom and democracy.
Glaser emphasized President Tsai’s status as one of the most esteemed partners of the U.S. and other nations, asserting that the foundation she has laid will ensure the enduring strength of U.S.-Taiwan relations beyond her presidency.
