House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-Texas) sharply criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s recent remarks regarding Israel, labeling them as “very inappropriate” and “embarrassing” during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” over the weekend.
Schumer had called for new elections in Israel, suggesting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “lost his way.” This call from Schumer drew strong rebuke from Republicans, who accused him of meddling in Israel’s democratic process.
McCaul expressed his dismay at Schumer’s comments, emphasizing that discussing the toppling of a government in a democracy was highly improper.
He characterized Schumer’s stance as indicative of a growing divide within the Democratic Party, noting a shift away from the traditional alliance with Israel towards a more pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel sentiment among certain factions.
