Arrests Made Following Traffic Collision Linked to Burglary in L’Derry

Police in L’Derry responded to a road traffic collision late on Wednesday, March 20, and subsequently arrested two men suspected of involvement in a burglary earlier in the area.

The incident occurred around 11:55 PM when police received a collision report involving a black Audi TT on Gortinure Road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the vehicle abandoned in a ditch.

During their investigation into the collision, they discovered that the Audi had been stolen from an address in Victoria Gate, where a burglary occurred earlier that night. The items recovered from the vehicle were a television and a crowbar, which were believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

Following these findings, two men, aged 23 and 32, were arrested in connection with the burglary and the collision. The police have not disclosed the specific details of how and when the men were located and linked to the incidents.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary, while the 32-year-old was apprehended on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods. Currently, both individuals remain in custody, assisting the police with their inquiries.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Victoria Gate or Gortinure Road areas on the night of the incidents and witnessed any suspicious activity to come forward with information.
