The First Minister of Wales has outlined a series of legislative priorities to bring positive change to the people of Wales. These bills, to be introduced in the next Senedd term, cover a wide range of areas crucial to the well-being and progress of Welsh society.

One of the key bills is the Bus Bill, which seeks to reform and enhance bus services, prioritizing the needs of communities over profit. This initiative aims to ensure that bus services align closely with the requirements of local populations.

Another vital bill is the Disused Tips Safety Bill, which will set a global standard in managing disused tips. By reforming existing laws related to coal tip safety, this bill aims to provide greater security to residents living near these areas.

The Welsh Language Education Bill is also on the agenda. It aims to increase the number of Welsh speakers and safeguard Welsh-speaking communities. This bill underscores the importance of preserving and promoting the Welsh language.

Also, a bill focused on reducing the democratic deficit in Wales and modernizing the electoral system will be introduced. This bill reflects the commitment to creating a more effective and representative democratic framework.

The Local Government Finance Bill is set to reform council tax and non-domestic rate systems, ensuring they adapt to changing market conditions and better address the financial challenges individuals and organizations face.

One important highlight is the planned reform of the Senedd through a once-in-a-generation bill. This reform aims to create a modern and effective Senedd, enhancing its capacity for representation, legislative action, and government oversight.

Gender quotas for Senedd election candidates will be introduced, aligning with the aim of making the parliament more reflective of the Welsh population.

The First Minister also emphasized legislative efforts to remove private profit from the care of looked-after children and introduce direct payments for continuing healthcare. These measures aim to improve the quality and efficiency of care services.

Lastly, the First Minister’s legislative agenda is ambitious and transformative, focusing on essential reforms in taxation, democracy, language preservation, public services, and governance structures. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to addressing key challenges and making vast improvements in the lives of Welsh citizens.

The government’s legislative priorities for the remainder of the Senedd term will encompass many areas, including homelessness, building safety, tourism, tax, transport, environment, and justice.

Consolidation bills will also be introduced to enhance the accessibility of Welsh law, reflecting a comprehensive approach to legal and governance reform in Wales.
